When I was 14

Well, after the drastic career changing move I’ve made recently, I’ve been thinking and pondering over my steps since when I was young.

To give some perspective, I was very interested in technology when I was young, picking up programming books and “Hacking” books since I was in Primary School. I never really did understand what I was doing until in Secondary 1, where I joined Programming Club and learnt programming. At that point of time I was dead sure I wanted to do Technology and wanted to improve the world in any small manner with my knowledge.

There were many opportunities to do that and I was even accepted to a direct masters program in Georgia Tech where I could get a 4-year Masters programme.

In the process, many things changed, and I went a full round before landing into what I’m currently doing, as a Pentester. It was a long drawn out process and I even thought if I was being stupid after wasting so much time.

I stopped myself thinking that when I imagine myself when I was 14. Frankly, the 14 year-old me would have been damn proud of what I’m achieving now. Doing what I love everyday, being (relatively) good at it and getting paid in the process too. I am what my 14 year old wanted to be, and I would even put my current self as a role model if my 14 year old self saw me.

So that’s pretty cool and honestly, despite having taken a little bit of detours here and there, I managed to land where I wanted myself to be. And that’s pretty cool.

PS: On a side note:
