Watches Tell Stories

I’ve been doing a long-term project on watches. The premise is that a watch is something I carry with my wherever I go, and they will carry “memories” of what I’m doing and what I think.

What I’ll do is to carry a limited number of watches throughout my life, etching “memories” of each watches. I’ll then be able to tell stories based on each watch that I carry, and what each sections of my life I experienced.

As of now, I’ve worn 2 watches, and have bought a third. They are:

  1. Timex INDIGLO Night-Light WATCH
  2. Citizen Eco Drive BM6750-59A
  3. Citizen Eco Drive Blue Angels AT8020-54L

I’ve only completed the story for my first watch for Timex and shall (finally) pen the story of my first watch.

Timex Indiglo Night-Light Watch

This watch was purchased close to my ORD at around Oct 2010. I was ready to be out of Army and I was ready to explore the world. I started my first job at Acquire Talent Services as my first job ever. Nope, I did not do any part-time job previously at all.

Interestingly, this is where I met my first girlfriend, Jessica (who just got married recently) too. I entered into a relationship I wasn’t ready for. Then again, one can never be ready. I did learn stuff, and it wasn’t fully healthy as well. Let’s just leave it vague like this.

After leaving the relationship, I went on a brave front to start University. I put on an “extroverted” front and did kind of started a group of people hanging out. Throughout university, I actually performed pretty well. Academically, I graduated with First Class Honours, almost put into Valedictorian (nominated to be voted). I won a couple of competitions and worked hard during the three years doing internships throughout every single holiday as well. I would say university taught me a lot of things and gave me exposures  that I never had.

Nearing graduation, I thought I knew what I wanted. My performance was really good and I got a job lined up as well. Truly though, I was simply led by the system, but I was performing well. Probably due to my talents as well.

Around the point of graduation, it chanced upon me that I’m starting a “new life”. The idea of having watches to represent stories and memories came to me. That was when I thought I should purchase a new watch for a new phase of working life, and I got the Citizen Eco Drive BM6750-59A.

I would say this stint of life was very interesting. I learnt, I grew, I got hurt, I experienced, I succeeded, I enjoyed.
